Exercise Prescription

“If exercise was a pill, it would be the most cost effective pill ever invented”

(NHS 2011)

If exercise is a drug it must be individually prescribed at the correct dose, route and strength.  Starting an exercise programme can be extremely daunting, especially if you have cancer and were not exercising before your diagnosis.

Canrecover exercise programmes contain the correct amount of:

Aerobic exercise/cardiovascular strength - helping your heart and lungs work more efficiently

Resistance training/muscular strength - to increase your strength and metabolic rate, helping to burn more calories at rest, and feel stronger

Flexibility/stretching excercises - specific stretching exercises to help increase your range of movement, release tight muscles and reduce overall tension

Balance rehabilitation - by exercising your body across multiple plains of movement, your brain and muscles will work in partnership allowing you to move around more freely. This also  reduces your chances of having a fall considerably

Individual goals from exercising will vary according to needs, goals and preferences.  If you have a new cancer diagnosis we would aim to improve functional status prior to treatment ( pre habilition).

During and after cancer treatment we would work together to address treatment specific side effects and after cancer treatment is over we can optimise your general health in the recovery period.
